Active in languages – inter-Active in teaching. Modern tools and methods in foreign language teaching with ICT applications
The main objective of the project “Active in languages – inter-Active in teaching. Modern tools and methods in foreign language teaching with ICT applications” is to extend the existing cooperation between the Philological School of Higher Education in Wrocław (WSF) and Sogn og Fjordane University College (HiSF) in Norway to exchange experience and good practices in foreign language teaching. Thanks to the project, the Philological School of Higher Education may use the best Scandinavian standards and create innovative courses using modern ICT solutions and tools. The project also aims at confronting the Polish and Norwegian model of teacher education and teaching methods through the organisation of pedagogical practices for Polish and Norwegian students. This will allow to establish direct contacts between members of both academic communities. The conference and publication summarising the project activities, in terms of the achieved project results, will allow to look at the contemporary European teaching practice from a broader perspective.
Project objectives
The specific objectives of the project include:
- development of interactive teaching materials for teaching of foreign languages (English, German, Spanish and Italian) at the A1–C1 levels according to theCommon European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The created materials are included in the online courses on practical learning of foreign languages at the Philological School of Higher Education. The academic teachers and e-learning specialists use valuable advice of the Norwegian experts during the creation of on-line courses and expert opinions after their completion;
- implementation of pedagogical practices by students in Poland and Norway;
- co-organisation of a conference on teaching of foreign languages and preparing publication presenting the results and good practices developed under the project.
Planned results:
Using the best Norwegian models and innovative ICT solutions applied in foreign language teaching, the academic teachers of the Philological School of Higher Education and e-learning specialists expand their professional skills and knowledge in this field, while the School increases the attractiveness of its educational offer for students by organising interactive online courses which meet the highest European standards. This key action under the project will provide benefits to all students of the Philological School of Higher Education, since their face-to-face courses will be supplemented by an online component.
Students internships in both partner universities under the project provide an opportunity to establish close Polish-Norwegian relations and to learn about and confront different university realities. Knowledge end experience of the Norwegian Partner and jointly achieved project results will be presented during the summary conference bringing together Polish and foreign academic teachers and students of teaching specialisations. The result of the conference will be a publication in the paper and electronic form, which will disseminate the effect of project actions.
Role of the Partner Institution under the project
The project implementation is based on close cooperation with the Norwegian partner. The coordinator of Sogn og Fjordane University College (HiSF) creates and stimulates mutual relations of partners, being responsible for effective performance of tasks. Depending on the specific nature of an action, different persons or university units are responsible for its implementation. Academic teachers of HiSF from the Department of Social Sciences, Teacher Education and Business are involved in the cooperation on e-learning courses implementation and are willingly supported by employees of the International Office of the Sogn og Fjordane University College (HiSF) who participate i.a. in organising student internships. Inter-university relations are characterised by a high degree of openness and flexibility.

The cooperation of the Philological School of Higher Education and the Sogn og Fjordane University College (HiSF) under the Scholarship and Training Fund project within the Institutional Cooperation is a consequence of previous relations of those universities under the Erasmus programme. John Seriot, academic teacher of Sogn og Fjordane University College (HiSF), visited the Philological School of Higher Education in Wrocław several times – he occasionally gave classes to Polish students and presented the Norwegian university. Friendly and sympathetic atmosphere of meetings and contact with our Norwegian friends promotes joint creative actions.
